Starting the morning off right

Starting mornings off right

I'm not necessarily the greatest morning person. When I first wake up, I'm not grumpy or moody, but I'm pretty quiet as I try to move from sleepy Bev to awake Bev. But I've found the best thing that has worked for me, is to get up at least 1.5 hours before I need to leave the house to give myself time to prepare for the morning. I'm pretty low maintenance so getting ready and dressed in the morning does not take up a lot of my morning time. What I really enjoy is taking my time with my morning coffee and breakfast. I love being able to sit and just contemplate the morning and the day ahead. [Read more...]

The roots of my problem with indecision

Root cause of my indecision

I'm the worst when it comes to making a decision and then changing my mind back and forth until I'm so confused I just want to shut down and not think about it at all. Even simple things like choosing a restaurant or what movie to watch makes me nervous. It's actually a problem and I'm consciously trying not to fall into the habit of flipping back and forth. Here's what I figured may be the roots of where my problem with indecision comes from.   Lack of self-confidence How can I be sure of any decision I make if I'm not even sure of myself. I constantly question everything [Read more...]

Best Tubing Mascara brands to try in 2016

Tubing Mascara

Finding a good mascara for me is definitely like finding a needle in a haystack. For someone who has dry skin in many areas, my lids and under eye are not so afflicted, but falls on the other end of the spectrum - oiliness - which prohibits me from being able to be carefree and experimental with my makeup. Which means I try to make well informed and educated decisions when it comes to buying and wearing mascara. Unfortunately for me, I have made many incorrect choices, which resulted in looking like I was constantly tired due to the never ending dark smudges under my eyes. I actually resorted [Read more...]

Self reflection can be a good habit to have

Self reflection can be a good habit to have

Really listening to your thoughts and trying to decipher them is a great way to learn about yourself.  It's so strange, but I remember the moment I became self reflective. I was a child and not aware of how my actions affected others. I remember I was having a party at my house, surrounded by a group of friends. We were running around, having fun without a care in the world. There was a movie my friend brought over (on VHS) and I wanted a copy, but we only had 1 VHS machine, so I couldn't copy it myself. I knew my aunt had 2 VHS machines at home and could easily copy the tape for me, so I ran [Read more...]

Stairs

Stairs

I took this photo while on a hike in Tofino and for some reason the texture, colour and layout of the stairs really appealed to me. I love that they're imperfect but beautiful and perfectly fits in with the lush and gorgeous rainforest surrounding the stairs.

A lesson on reading instructions carefully

Reading instructions carefully

I think it's an important lesson to learn how to carefully read and follow instructions before attempting to complete them. I've always held this belief, although sometimes I follow this rule and sometimes I don't. For some reason, I have this extremely vivid memory way back in Grade 4 when our teacher gave us this assignment where we had to read a set of instructions and follow them. Well, it sent the class in a tizzy as everyone raced to be the first to get it done. I remember a lot of chaos happening while we were doing it and in the corner of my eye, I saw our teacher standing there, [Read more...]

Worried? Accept it and then move on.

Worried? Accept it and then move on.

It's Monday! I had a wonderful and glorious long weekend where I didn't have to think about reality, and could just enjoy the many wonderful moments that happened throughout, including the photo above which was my view while I laid on a beach and stared at the wide and expansive sky and felt super good. So now it's Monday and reality hits and I start to worry and fret over all those things that I kept at bay for the last few days. But what's the point of worrying? Half the time, the stuff I worry about never happens and I end up spending all this time lost in my head instead of being in the [Read more...]

Our paths are not always so straightforward

Our paths are not always so straightforward

Complications come and go, and we have to remember that our life path isn't always straight forward (like this in this picture). But it's always important to remember that through all those bends and turns we can expect that the path will straighten out every once in a while.
