I’ve been a fan of the cat eye look for years because I love how it brightens up my eyes, and somehow for me, magically makes mine look bigger. Until recently, I realized that I’ve been doing it all wrong. To be fair, my version is passable, but after getting a tutorial from the make up experts at Amaterasu, I have now tweaked my technique, and I have to say, my cat eye flicks look much more presentable.
Honestly, creating a cat eye look with the Amaterasu Liquid Eyeliner is super easy because the formula is designed to deliver a smooth flow of ink that doesn’t pull or smear. Plus, the fine tip microfiber brush lets you draw very clean and precise lines. I’m definitely not a make up artist or expert, so any tools that help me achieve that fashionable look is a huge help. What’s even better, if I make a mistake it’s an easy fix by using a cotton swab dipped in warm water to clean up any wonky lines.
If you’ve been wanting to try the cat eye look, and weren’t sure where to start, keep reading. Or even if you just want to compare notes or add your experiences or tips, I’d love to hear from you too, so please feel free to comment.
P.S. Thank you to the wonderful Amaterasu makeup pros for providing the images and tips below.
1) Draw a line.
Starting at your inner corner, draw a line along your top lash line, as close to your lashes as possible.
2) Determine placement of wing.
Take a straight edge such as the eyeliner or brush handle, and angle it against your nose, pointing towards the end of your eyebrow. This will be the angle of your wing.
3) Wing it!
Starting where the eyeliner ends on the outer corner of your eyelid, draw a line up towards the tail of your eyebrow, using step 2 as guidance. The length of the line you draw will determine how dramatic your cat eye will be. The longer the line, the more dramatic it will be.
4) Make a triangle.
Draw a second line from the tip of the wing (first line) diagonally down towards the lash line creating a triangle.
5) Fill in triangle & draw lower lash line.
Fill in the empty space, creating the wing and draw a line along the lower lash line as close to the lashes as possible.
6) Connect lines.
Connect the lower lash eyeliner with the wing and clean up any imperfections. Voila! Cat eye is complete!
